Day 4 - The Mountains are Calling - Mürren
Day 4 began with a bus ride through the Black Forest. Thanks to some road construction, we had to take a detour and got a little lost. We luckily found a very nice truck driver that led us to the Open-Air Museum in the Black Forest.
After the Museum, we headed off to Switzerland and the Alps. It was foggy when we arrived, so we couldn't see the mountains. We took the gondola up to Mürren and had a wonderful group dinner at our hotel. |
Black Forest Open-Air Museum
The Open-Air Museum gives visitors a chance to see how life used to be in the Black Forest. We were able to visit a complete house - which includes the barn - and learn about the way of life for people in the Black Forest many years ago. The houses at the museum were build as far back as 1612. Most of them were built in the 1700's and were later moved to this location.

Arrival in Switzerland
Mürren was probably my favorite stop on the tour. I love the mountains and the small town charm.

The Schlithorn and Piz Gloria
Hiking through the Alps
Here is a short video from the train ride from Grütschlap back to Mürren. It was a lovely little train ride with the best view around.

Dinner
We joined some of our tour members for dinner to try a Swiss specialty: Raclette. Raclette is a type of cheese that is melted and scraped onto your plate. It is served with potatoes and onions. We also enjoyed the salad bar - which had to most amazing beets.
mmmmm....CHEESE. Here is how they melt the Raclette. The cheese is specially made just for this purpose.

Day 6 - Off to Interlacken
On Day 6 of the tour we enjoyed a trip to Trummelbach falls followed by a bus ride into Interlacken. We were able to visit Schuh and get a chocolate demonstration (along with lots of free samples).
After the demonstration, we were on our own for lunch and a little wandering before heading back to Murren. Katie and I decided to enjoy some outdoors time and walk through the valley from Latuerbrauten to the cable car. In the evening, we enjoyed some music from the Alpenhorn and accordion before our group dinner. |
Trümmelbach Falls
Trümmelbach Falls are waterfalls inside the mountain. You ride an elevator part way up and explore the falls from different views. We climbed all the way up and all the way back down. Here are some of the pictures and a couple videos so that you can see just how powerful these falls are.
