We left Trier early and made our way to the elegant town of Baden-Baden. Our first stop - the casino! Upon our arrival into the town, Daniela gave us an orientation walk. We were then free for lunch. We enjoyed a nice lunch with a few tour members before meeting back up to check into our hotel. The afternoon was free for us to explore Baden-Baden, take a hike, or try out the baths.
Katie and I decided to hike up to an old castle despite the gloomy weather. We were the only ones there and had a lot of fun exploring the ruins. We then returned to town for an Eiskaffee and dinner. |
The Casino
The grand casino in Baden-Baden was built in the 1850's. As all great and luxurious things at that time, it was inspired by the Palace of Versailles in an attempt to entice the French to come just across the border to gamble.
Our group was given a tour during the day - before all the action heated up. Katie and I did not wish to try our luck on the tables later that night, but if you do, be sure to bring appropriate attire! |

Today's Food
Lunch was at Badische Stube. We enjoyed our wonderful Eiskaffees at Capri. We finished our night with dinner at Le Bistro.
The Breakfast
Hotel zum Hirsch had the most expansive breakfast spread of the trip. Although most breakfasts were similar on the trip, this one had the most options by far. One never went hungry at breakfast unless you wanted!
