Arriving Early
Katie and I decided to arrive a day early for our tour. This gave us some extra time to explore Trier and adjust to the new time zone.
We flew into Frankfort and then took the train to Trier. We had a little hiccup with the train - the ticket counter person only sold us one ticket - but we just bought another on the train. We decided to stay in the same hotel as the tour. It was easy to find using the directions provided by the company. We were able to drop off our bags and then began to explore Trier. |
Day 1 - Before the Tour
Since the tour did not begin until the evening, we took advantage of the day to go enjoy some of the sights that are not included in the tour. Our first stop was the Basilica of Constantine. It was closed in the morning, but we were able to visit in the afternoon. We walked passed the rococo Electoral Palace and through the Palace Garden before heading to the Roman Baths. Trier was once a capital city of the Roman Empire. The baths were quite fun to explore. There were halls that are now underground, so they were nice a cool on the warm day. After our adventure, we grabbed a pretzel from the market and had a beer and ice cream at a nearby restaurant before returning to the hotel to meet the rest of our group and start the tour.

Here are a couple of videos from the Basillica of the violinist and organist practicing. One was from my iPhone, the other my camera.
