Day 7 - Off to Bavaria
Day 7 was a long bus ride from Mürren to Munich. We stopped at a rest stop in Austria for our lunch break. The rest stops have buffet-style restaurants where you can get a quick warm meal.
Once arriving in Munich, we checked into our hotel and received a walking orientation on the way to our group dinner. At dinner, we were introduced to the Bavarian specialty of eines Maß - a liter of bier! In Germany, it is traditional to have a nice head of foam on your beer - it indicates that it was poured fresh and hasn't been sitting around. We followed up dinner with a trip through the Hofbräuhaus - which was filled with people and traditional German music. |
Dinner and the Hofbräuhaus
Day 8 - Munich
We started our full day in Munich with a guided walk. Our local guide, Kathleen was so wonderful. She talked about the long history of Munich and Bavaria.
After the tour, we were on our own for the rest of the day. Katie and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Andechs am Dom (one of my favorites) before exploring some churches and seeing the crypt of the Wittelbachs including King Ludwig II. We enjoyed a Schmaltznudlen, recommended by Munich native Daniela, before a nap and ice cream at Eiscafe Al Teatro. We finished our day people watching while having dinner across from the Hofbräuhaus at Ayingers Am Platzl. It was a great time watching the bachelor and bachelorette parties come and go. |
We finished our guided tour in time to make it to the Marienplatz for a performance from the Glockenspiel. The video is shaky as I was zoomed in. Movement starts around 3:20.
